Daily Mail Highlights Bodrum as Turkish St Tropez - 27 July, 2011
Holiday homes in Bodrum in Turkey could be set for a price rise if the rising tourism in the region is anything to go by, reports experts in property in Turkey; House Sales Turkey (http://www.housesalesturkey.com/). One of the UK’s most widely read newspapers the Daily Mail has highlighted Bodrum as “the Turkish St Tropez everyone can afford”. Indeed they encourage cash-strapped Britons to see Turkey as a whole as “holiday salvation”.

As the web portal for real estate in Turkey House Sales Turkey recently reported, Turkey’s tourism country-wide has been steadily increasing. 2.1 million tourists visited Turkey in the first quarter of 2011 alone, an increase of 17.6% on last year’s figures. Bodrum is one of Turkey’s most popular holiday hotspots. As the Daily Mail puts it, “While other destinations have proved difficult to sell, it is no surprise that Bodrum has been one of no-frills airline easyJet's most successful destinations this summer”. It boasts beautiful sandy beaches, a fantastic climate and affordable amenities.

Bodrum and indeed Turkey’s affordability is key to its tourism success. “What is attracting more and more UK travellers to Bodrum is its outstanding value for money. While eurozone destinations become ever more expensive thanks to the continuing fall in the value of the pound, Turkey offers a welcome oasis of affordability. While the cost of a basket of holiday purchases in Portugal has risen by 39 per cent, Spain by 41 per cent and Croatia by 47 per cent, prices in Turkey have gone up by just two per cent, according to a recent survey by Post Office Travel Money. Of the main European holiday destinations, only Bulgaria is cheaper than Turkey.”

Bodrum’s recent regeneration and development has brought smart hotels and fine dining to the region which have in turn attracted celebrities and the chic and wealthy jet-set to Bodrum. While this aligns it to France’s St Tropez, Bodrum offers a “cheap chic” which broadens its appeal. This is increasing demand for villas in Bodrum, and indeed for villas in Turkey in general, and prices for property in Turkey’s holiday hotspots should enjoy some uplift as a result.
