Low Cost of Living Attracts Buyers to Property in Turkey - 16 March, 2011
We've discussed many of the attractions of property in Turkey to buyers here at House Sales Turkey (http://www.housesalesturkey.com/): the variety of property on offer, the reasonable asking prices, the beauty and exoticism of the country itself, etc. Now, more than ever before, the low cost of living in Turkey is also a factor when choosing to buy real estate in Turkey over some of its European counterparts.

Much of the world is still in the grip of recession, with government's imposing austerity measures and individuals tightening their purse strings like never before. Little wonder, then, that the cost of living in a country is being taken into account when considering where to buy property, whether as a holiday home or as an investment purchase. Turkey has a considerably lower cost of living than the UK and Ireland, especially in the current economic conditions. While the UK is experiencing austerity, Turkey is one of the few countries experiencing economic growth, whereas the cost of living in the respective countries remains at levels seen before the economic crisis.

As we've often pointed out here at House Sales Turkey, the price of property in Turkey is significantly lower than that of comparable properties in European countries. This is still the case even given the fact that the country is being tipped as a real estate investment hot spot over the coming years and the fact that Turkey's economy is set to continue to enjoy growth. When it comes to owning real estate in Turkey, the lower cost of living extends to lower property taxes, council taxes, water and electricity bills.

Affording the weekly shop is also far easier in Turkey: a price check in Turkish daily paper 'Didum Today' shows 1 litre of milk at the equivalent of 46p in Turkey compared to £1.55 in the UK; potatoes at 58p in Turkey compared to £1.55 in the UK; and 2.5kg of rice at £1.96 in Turkey compared to £2.76 in the UK.

Turkey's low cost of living is important to real estate investors who want to ensure that their buy to let villas in Turkey are in demand from holiday-makers from around Europe, no matter how hard times are economically in their own country. Potential owners of property in Turkey will be encouraged by the lower cost of property ownership, as well as a the lower cost of general day-to-day living.
